Insurance - Insurance Coverage FAQs
Professional Liability Questions and Answers
The National Professional Liability Insurance Policy is administered by the CKA/ACK. We receive a number of inquiries from both provincial kinesiology associations and individual members wanting to know if various services are covered by our policy. The following should provide some guidelines in helping to answer those questions.
CKA/ACK – Definition of Kinesiologist
Kinesiologists are human movement specialists offering a wide variety of assessments and services to the public to assist with both injury/illness prevention and injury management. Their practice is based on the core sciences of anatomy, physiology, biomechanics and psychomotor behaviour. Kinesiologists work in the fitness industry, clinically, and in industrial environments.
CKA/ACK - Scope of Practice for a Kinesiologist
Kinesiologists provide services through the application of the science of human movement and deliver quality solutions through prevention, objective assessment, and evidence based intervention.

Qualifying Questions
The following questions should be asked to determine if a service provided by a Kinesiologist is covered by the national professional liability insurance policy:
- What course in your kinesiology university program did you take to gain knowledge to perform this assessment or service?
- Did you take a post graduate course to gain this knowledge?
- Does the assessment or service fall within the scope of practice outlined by the CKA/ACK?
- Would a reasonable Kinesiologist with your educational background provide this service?
If the answer is no to any of the above question, it is strongly recommended the Kinesiologist contact the CKA/ACK (info@cka.ca) to get further clarification if the service is covered.
