The Canadian Kinesiology Awards are awarded for outstanding achievement in Canada’s kinesiology industry. In 2020, they were in their inaugural year, and were established as a platform for kinesiology professionals to be recognized and celebrated for their talent, hard work, and success.
The Canadian Kinesiology Alliance (CKA) is pleased to recognize Canadian professionals for their achievements.
The Canadian Kinesiology Alliance Awards are an acknowledgment by your peers that you are among the very best in your field in the country. Awards will be granted for outstanding achievement in the following categories: Kin of the Year & Researcher of the Year.
The Canadian Kinesiology Awards are open to all Canadian Kinesiologists, researchers, clinics, hospitals, fitness studios, fitness/recreation centres, organizations, or events that promote health and physical activity (within the eligibility period).
Membership to the Canadian Kinesiology Alliance is mandatory for the nominee (or at least one nominee in a team), except for the Researcher of the Year category who may apply for the award without being a member of the Canadian Kinesiology Alliance.
All entries must be submitted by midnight on November 20th, 2022.
The panel of judges is comprised of an esteemed group of volunteers from the CKA Board of Directors.
Finalists will be announced at the closing ceremonies of the Kin Can Conference online on Nov. 27, 2022.

- Kin of the Year:
Kinesiologist(s), individual or team, who demonstrated significant leadership, innovation, engagement, passion, and achievement in the field of kinesiology, physical activity, human kinetics, wellness, lifestyle, sports, and who has/is making positive, sustainable contributions to help Canadians move better-live better.
- Researcher of the Year:
Professor, faculty member, or researcher who demonstrated significant work to advance the science of kinesiology; demonstrated competency in a field of kinesiology.

Industry Recognition
Winners are celebrated at the closing ceremonies of the Kin Can Conference, and announced in the CKA’s media: eNewsletter, websites, social media platforms. The Canadian Kinesiology Awards are included in the CKA Annual Report.
The winners will be profiled in the CKA eNewsletter, which is distributed across Canada to over 4300 affiliated Kinesiologists. The winning work will also be archived online in the Canadian Kinesiology Awards gallery on the CKA website.
Eligibility
The Canadian Kinesiology Awards are open to all Canadian Kinesiologists, researchers, clinics, hospitals, fitness studios, fitness/recreation centres, organizations, or events that promote health and physical activity (except those on selection committee).
Membership to the Canadian Kinesiology Alliance is mandatory for the nominee (or at least one nominee in a team), except for the Researcher of the Year category who may apply for the award without being a member of the Canadian Kinesiology Alliance. One may self-nominate.
Judging or Evaluation
Award submissions are evaluated by the CKA. Each nomination is evaluated using a ranking system and consensus methods. The committee considers both the process by which an initiative is undertaken, and its outcomes. The submissions must comply with the values, mission and vision statement of the CKA. The criteria are as follows:
- To advance, promote and advocate for kinesiology in Canada through meaningful actions, projects, events, etc.;
- To contribute to ensuring kinesiology is broadly recognized by all Canadians as a leading health profession;
- To bring added value to the fields of kinesiology, services and programs;
- To have had a positive impact on Canadian lives;
- To optimize alignment of health associations to advance kinesiology;
- To increase public awareness on the benefits of kinesiology
All this by:
- Being progressive, proactive and at the forefront of kinesiology;
- Promoting diversity within the profession of kinesiology
- Using evidence-based learning in decision-making, accomplishments, events
- Promoting ethical & professional behaviour
- Being effective and efficient in collaborative initiatives.
The decisions regarding eligibility and awards of the CKA Nomination Committee are final.. Judging and evaluation may be based on additional criteria when seen fit by the CKA Nomination Committee.
Language Entries
The Canadian Kinesiology Awards accept either English or French-language entries. Materials available in both languages may be submitted together.

Submitting Your Nomination
Save this document, complete it, attach relevant material and email your completed form to info@cka.ca with “Canadian Kinesiology Awards Application – nominator’s name” as the subject line.
The submission form includes limitations on the number of words that can be included for each section. You may send additional pages up to a maximum of three pages as attachments or appendices. Please keep your responses as clear and concise as possible. Appendices are to be submitted by email at the same time, to the same email address.
